The Foundation, in collaboration with ASL TO 3, the Alice Piemonte Association of Turin, and the municipal administrations, has been promoting since 2004 in Valle Susa the Stroke Prevention Days, a disease that constitutes the third most frequent cause of death after cardiovascular diseases and tumors, the leading cause of disability and the second most frequent cause of dementia.
Citizens between the ages of 55 and 75 residing in the towns where the event takes place are subjected to surveys to collect information regarding their habits, lifestyles, and some clinical controls such as blood pressure, glycemia, and capillary cholesterolemia. At the end of the tests, the subjects with out-of-range values undergo consultation with doctors and nurses present at the event for an early review of the findings. The results are then communicated to the general practitioners, who will provide treatment for any possible risky conditions. Patients with a suspected diagnosis or with a high percentage of risk will be subjected to specific second-rate controls and examinations.
